Within Pai district there are approximately 20 000 inhabitants coming from a mixture of ethnic groups, including Shan, Northern Thai, Lesu, Lahu, Karen, Haw Chinese and some Hmong. The town itself nestles in a beautiful valley and there are numerous small villages dotted around the mountains. With many places of interest for the tourist to visit, Pai should definitely be included on the travel itinerary of every visitor to the province of Maehongson.
